Summer Camp application information went out yesterday and you can find out more here

Summer Training 2017

It’s that time of year again!

We are starting to distribute and collect summer training applications for the summer of 2017. We are changing how this is done so please read the following information carefully.

All cadets are asked to look at the summer training opportunities available to them (here and here) and decide whether they are interested in applying. They are then to pick up a “Summer Training Application” from the training office or print at home (here). They are then to fill out the application and discuss with their parents/guardians their choices. There is no parental signature or formal approval required for the application process.

Depending on what courses the cadets are applying for the forms will be due to Lt. Roberts directly either November 30, 2016 or January 30, 2017. This allows us time to gather any extra required documents. Cadets may submit late applications however we make no guarantees that their application will be processed and submitted on time.

When forms are submitted they will be reviewed by Lt Roberts to ensure they are complete and correct. As we have to rank our cadets in order of priority, there will be a priority matrix used to determine the ranking of the cadets This matrix takes into account things such as attendance, participation in mandatory activities, participation in optional activities, previous camp experiences, and whether there has been any formal disciplinary action taken in the year.

After that information is filled out, we will send off the applications electronically.

Applications are then processed at the regional level and we are informed of who was accepted to summer training. We do not pick the cadets, but we do make recommendations. We have the right to NOT recommend cadets if we do not feel that they will not succeed at the course, their behaviour or commitment is not sufficient or their application was incomplete.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

    • Aviation
    • Aircrew Survival
  • Lt Roberts spoke to each level on the first night and explained that they had evaluations in those subjects. They were also given the opportunity to self-identify if they have adaptations or IPPs at school so that any accommodations could be made.
  • Cadets should be told at the beginning of each class whether the information in the class will be included during an evaluation and ideally, the date of that evaluation.
  • As well, there is a 3-month schedule out for the cadets to see and check every week. It will have any evaluations (PCs) that the cadets have written as “408 PC or Aviation PC”.
  • If cadets have questions regarding evaluations they should bring it up to the training staff through the chain of command. That would be: level staff cadet -> level officer -> training officer.
  • If parents have questions, they can contact the staff by emailing the squadron.
