Staff Cadet Volunteer Opportunity – NS/PEI Biathlon Provincials

There has been a call for cadets to staff the NS/PEI biathlon provincials as officials this year.

The dates for this are January 27-28 2018. Cadets must be prepared to spend both days outside in cold and potentially unfavourable conditions. Knowledge of biathlon is an asset but not mandatory as long as you are willing to learn and work!

Previously it was necessary that officials be 16 by 2 days after nationals, however this year cadets as old as fourteen may submit their names however those aged 14 and 15 will be assessed by the CIC staff for suitability.

This years competition will be in Brookvale/Summerside, PEI due to the de-commissioning of the Martock range previously this year. Cadets that are interested MUST be able to commit to both days when they submit their names.

From previous experience, cadets will likely travel on Friday, and depending on the time they are intending to finish on Sunday, possibly Monday morning. While we always attempt to minimize school impact, the fact that this is in a different province and winter weather may impact travel there may require a small loss of school time.

Any cadets and/or parents that are seriously interested but concerned about loss of classroom time may talk to Lt Roberts via the squadron email (517fltgraham@gmail.com).

Cadets wishing to commit are asked to email the squadron as soon as possible with your name, age, birthday and any relevant experience or qualifications (biathlon coaching, competing, officiating, ARMIC, etc.) so that we may write a full and accurate recommendation. Spots are filled on a first-come, first-served basis so we would like to send in names sooner rather than later.

Names will be submitted to the organizers as they come in with a final deadline being January 2, 2018. We will advise those selected as soon as we are made aware.
