Cadets are required to take part in a fitness test at regular intervals throughout the year as well as regular sports or physical activity. Cadets must attend and participate in at least one fitness test each year to be promoted. They will also have the opportunity to earn fitness incentive levels and wear the corresponding badge on their uniform. The required results are as follows:
Fitness incentive levels are calculated by dropping the lowest score from curl-up, push-ip, back saver sit and reach, or shoulder stretch. The level awarded is then the lowest level achieved from the remaining four exercises.
The Colonel Robert Perron Fitness Award
Cadets are also able to have their name put forward to compete for the Colonel Robert Perron Fitness Award. This is a national award that is awarded to the top male and female cadet athlete in the country. Cadets must be 15 years of age and completed level 1 to apply for the award. Testing must occur by Mar 31 of each year, therefore cadets that wish to have their fitness scores considered for the award should inform the training staff (Lt. Roberts/CI Losier and Level Officer) before a sports night/fitness test.
Cadets who are interested may find more information in CATO 13-16 – Annex G (and appendices).
